MARIKA MAIJALA

Marika Maijala is a Finnish illustrator, writer, visual artist, graphic designer and animator. She was recently featured in The New York Times with a profile about the creative community she found on Harakka Island which is off the coast of Helsinki, Finland. Marika was the recipient of the Rudolf Koivu Award for best children’s book illustration in 2009 and 2019. In 2020 she received the Finnish State Award for Illustration Art. Marika’s debut book as an author, “Rosie Runs,” was nominated for The Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize in 2019 and was recently translated into English.
