ROBERT SCOTT
Robert is a historical expert first. A collector of historical artifacts second. Robert weaves together a supremely important part of American History by pairing early vernacular photography with broadsides, one of which dates back to 1787. For those of you not familiar with the term, broadsides were printed bulletins, pronouncements, declarations and really any other type of public message. The text within was always an exclamation of what was happening and/or what needed someone’s attention. Both mediums were short lived in so many memories – vernacular photographs were frequently neglected, lost or destroyed and broadsides were ephemeral by design, lasting only until they disintegrated or were replaced by the next. With this body of work, Robert seeks to recontextualize original messages while giving voice to the subjects in the photographs.
